Many industrial sites know how much water they use but still struggle to answer a more operationally useful question: where is the water actually going?
Meter readings may live in different systems, parts of the facility may not be measured, piping and processes change over time, and data may be collected at different frequencies. When inputs and outputs do not reconcile, teams need to determine whether they are seeing a real water loss, an unmeasured use, a faulty meter, a change in operations, or simply a data-quality or timing issue.
In this session, Angel Martinez, Senior Water Advisor at Waterplan, and Federico Golberg, Product Manager at Waterplan, will unpack what it takes to build a water balance that is not just technically sound, but useful for day-to-day decision-making.
Angel will bring the water management perspective: what a water balance should represent, how to think about system boundaries, measurement gaps, reuse, losses, and the decisions a reliable balance can support. Federico will bring the implementation and technology perspective, drawing on lessons and recurring patterns from Waterplan's work with industrial facilities to show how teams can map the physical system, prioritize measurement, reconcile imperfect data, and move from static diagrams and spreadsheets to a continuously updated operational view.
