The Science Based Targets Network (SBTN) helps companies set measurable, science-based targets for nature across freshwater, land, and ocean, with biodiversity integrated throughout. Freshwater targets translate basin-level conditions into specific corporate commitments on water quantity and quality, making them especially relevant for companies with water-intensive operations or agricultural supply chains.
Freshwater V2, released earlier this month, builds on lessons learned from public consultations, companies that have piloted the methods, and the companies that have already set validated targets.. Freshwater V2 adds a global groundwater pathway, pesticide targets, and makes several feasibility enhancements while maintaining scientific rigor.
Sara Walker from World Resources Institute and Allen Townsend from WWF, both co-leads of SBTN's Freshwater Hub, join Waterplan to discuss what early adopters have learned, what’s new in V2, and how companies starting today can plan for target setting and validation while building on existing water stewardship and reporting work.
